Love Letter to the Sea and All Waters

Flashing and undulating, you my first love,
the cynosure of all eyes,
forever rise and fall, advance, retreat,
inexorably drumming the pattern into our veins,
beating it into our hearts: all is flow.

Energy with the tides both waxes and wanes,
the time for everything arrives, then passes.
At your foaming knees, we learn balance,
on your back, we soar: all returns to source.

Without you we are desiccated nothings,
unable to cough out a cry for help.
When you are near, we feel your power,
watching a wilted rose strengthen its spine,
an exhausted man get to his feet.
The roar of your fall deafens us
to all other sound, but amplifies
the voice of our soul. All is generous.

Why then do men pour poisons into your well
and kill your children? A madness like lemmings
overtakes us, stifles our natural gladness
for your touch and taste, smell and sight.

Oh my very dear, may you flow victorious
over all who demean you, rape you, smother you with oil.
Eons from now, your triumphant voice will rush on,
torrenting through dry bones of your foes: life is all.
