Love Letter to the Earth

My dear mother,

Warm greetings to you this beautiful day, so rich in color. Your dark skin is set off so well by the blaze of bougainvillea, the white of the gardenias, the gold of the poppies. I have always admired the way you feed us all, support us all, keep us from floating away. You hold so many mysteries! Your minuscule mechanics--the bacteria, the earthworms, the insects--your magnetism and your great cycles, from tectonics to your molten core, bring a fascination for us children that must make you smile at times, as you spin like an exquisite glass bauble around your compelling star. Your fascination with him appears so like our own with you--an eternal triangle of love and adoration. I know that my kind, for the most part, either ignores you or slaps your face with seismic insults.

I apologize, beloved mother, for our ingratitude. I am doing my best to change our hearts and minds. I appeal to all those who may chance to read this letter to respect our mother's integrity, balance and generosity. Such a beautiful planet is very hard to find!

Your daughter,

Susanne
